For years the single most requested educational item for the Heartland Model geography, to learn more about and share this research, has been a large format, high-quality picture book.  Finally, author Rod L. Meldrum has created a 200+ page heirloom quality photographic journey of discovery into the exciting new “Heartland Model” geography!  It is titled Exploring The Book of Mormon In America’s Heartland – A Visual Journey of Discovery. Over 30,000 copies sold!

Over 500 stunningly beautiful photographs combine with quotes, stories, charts, commentary, maps and scripture to introduce the reader to the rapidly mounting body of evidence that presents the very real possibility that the Book of Mormon history occurred in the Heartland of North America.

From Adam-ondi-Ahman to the restoration of the Gospel, to the building of the New Jerusalem in the latter-days—the Heartland” of America has been the setting of sacred and significant events throughout human history. This photographic book introduces the growing body of evidence that suggests the very real possibility of a North American setting for The Book of Mormon.

Thirty-six scriptural prophecies and promises alternate between descriptions of the ancient Nephite land and a latter-day “Promised Land.” Following that premise, readers will carefully examine statements by the Prophet Joseph Smith regarding his views on Book of Mormon geography.

Newly emerging scientific information strengthens the assertion that large agrarian societies once flourished in North America at precisely the times of the Jaredite and Nephite cultures. This research, conducted primarily by non-LDS scientists, is revealing a remarkable panorama of culture, achievement and destruction among these ancient peoples.

The research here compiled spans the scope of archaeology, anthropology, architecture, fortifications, trade, religion, metallurgy, DNA, horticulture, transportation–by sea and by land, geographic typologies, building materials, astronomical alignments, mythology and much more.

This visually compelling new book has a suggested retail of $39.95. Compare with other books of similar quality at $45-$60.  To purchase, go to the BOOKSTORE or visit Deseret Book and Seagull Bookstores everywhere, or Costco stores in Utah, Idaho, and Arizona. Also available on Amazon.com and other retail book outlets online.

 Endorsements:

“I believe the United States of America is the location of the ‘Land of Promise’ spoken of in the Book of Mormon. There is much left to be discovered with respect to its ancient inhabitants—who they were and where they got their knowledge of metallurgy, agriculture and written languages. This book presents crucial information which has been suppressed for centuries and should be read by all who inhabit this sacred ‘Promised Land’ today.”

Elder Hartman Rector, Jr., Emeritus General Authority

“I’ve personally explored the research, seen the evidence, discovered the correlations, and endorse the findings!”

“This book opens up a whole new field for inquiry, investigation and discovery . . .my sense is that the better we understand the context of the Land of Promise the more prepared we will be . . .

“ . . . a great gift to introduce others to this fascinating research, which will reinvigorate your study of the Book of Mormon.”

David N. Wright, DND

“Suzanne and I are so blessed and excited to have personally visited, experienced, witnessed and felt the evidence and artifacts at the various locations shown in this marvelous book.  Not only does the DNA, ancient languages and archaeology all line up, but it makes logical and spiritual sense, confirming that the ancient prophecies of The Book of Mormon are true.  As Elder L. Tom Perry wrote in the Dec. 2012 Ensign, ‘The United States is the Promised Land foretold in the Book of Mormon‘ and this book explores those evidences from America’s Heartland.  It will change your lives and expose truths that even ‘conspiring men’ could not hide or destroy.”

“THIS IS A TERRIFIC BOOK !

As the writer and director of THE TESTAMENTS, the epic Book of Mormon film produced by the LDS Church, I should be among those with strong vested interests in clinging to the popular notion that the lands of the Book of Mormon were in Central America.  Nobody likes ancient stone pyramids, jaguar cults and a jungle setting more than me.  That said: Having read Prophecies and Promises by Bruce Porter and Rod Meldrum, and Exploring the Book of Mormon in America’s Heartland, I have  to say, ‘I created the biggest, most expensive movie the Church ever made and I think I made it in the wrong place.

I encourage everyone to explore this marvelous book with an open mind.  When I began work on the Testaments, President James E Faust put his hands on my shoulders, looked me in the eye and said, Kieth, ‘we do not know with certainty where these things took place.

Where the events recorded in the Book of Mormon took place is not the basis of my testimony. I know it is of divine origin for many other reasons, but the revelations of this research have significantly changed my previous assumptions, added insights, opened possibilities and excited me in remarkable ways.”

                          – Onward and upward, Kieth Merrill

 Book History

Exploring the Book of Mormon in America’s Heartland – A visual Journey of Discovery book project was originally started by Tonya Meldrum, wife of Rod Meldrum in an effort to help Rod make available the most requested item by fellow Heartlanders over the years. She initiated the book, got it pretty far along, and then encouraged Rod to jump in, which he did.  Overall the project took some 8-9 months to collect and organize the photos, write the text, lay out the pages, go through the review and editing stages and make ready for print.

The Review Process:

The book was reviewed and edited by over 20 individuals who were tasked with review for content, clarity, and gospel and Church history correctness (including reviews by 5 emeritus General Authorities), then reviewed for ease of reading and learning dynamics, then for sentence structure and composition, spelling and grammar, and finally a triple check of all references.  It was a long but very important process, resulting in nearly no changes required in what is now three four five, SIX printings totaling 30,000 copies!  We want to express our thanks to all who contributed their time, energy and talents to ensuring this book is well written and accurate!

Costco Book Signings Notes

There have been thousands upon thousands of folks stopping by and finding out more.  Hundreds have already become familiar with the Heartland Model Geography research and stopped by the signings to express their gratitude and excitement about these important new evidences in support of the Book of Mormon.  It is amazing to see how many there are who have been positively effected by this research.  Everyone seems to love the book and many purchased multiple copies including one distinguished sister who got 12 copies for her family members!

At one signing I looked up and recognized a face but could not place the name, so I asked how I knew him and he said that he is one of the co-stars of the show “Jungle Gold” which my sons and I follow (the only TV program besides “Gold Rush” that I have time to watch!  I asked to take a picture of him to show my son, and so here I am with Scott Lomu and his children on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Lehi Costco.
